Structure fire - Alexandria Twp (Foxwood Lane)

On the 17th of May, Clinton Fire Department's Tower (45-69) responded to a structure fire in Alexandria Township.  The full story is available on the NJ.com site.

CFD Biography - Chief Steve Higgins



Name: Steve Higgins (Fire Chief)

About Steve:

Steve was born and raised in Clinton and attended Clinton Public School. Steve is a 1990 graduate of North Hunterdon where he played baseball. After High School Steve worked several jobs until he began working for Maintenance Solutions 14 years ago. Steve does many jobs for Maintenance Solutions but specializes in drywall and painting.

Steve's Fire Service Career:

Steve is a third generation Clinton Firefighter. His Father and Grandfather served CFD for many years. Steve spent many days helping out at pancake breakfasts and other fund raising events way before he was old enough to be a member. In 1991 Steve officially joined the CFD family. Steve has been a Lieutenant, Captain, and Deputy Chief until being elected Chief of Department on April 5, 2010. Steve's son Tom recently became a 4th generation member of the department when he joined as a Junior Firefighter.

CFD Activity for March 2010

03/01/10 @ 11:00 pm - Fire Box 2549 Level 1 - Interstate 78 East in Union Township just prior to Exit 15 for the MVA with a fuel spill. Deputy 45, Engine 451 and Engine 452 responded and found 100 gallons of diesel fuel leaking from a tractor trailer involved in the accident. Members contained the spill and Hunterdon County Hazmat responded to assist. All units returned to service at 12:12 am.



03/03/10 @ 8:00 am - Fire Box 4505 Level 1 - Interstate 78 East in the Town of Clinton for the reported car fire. Engine 451 responded but was cancelled by NJ State Police due to the car being disabled and not on fire. Engine 451 was back in quarters at 8: 21 am.



03/03/10 @ 3:46 pm - Fire Box 1401 Level 2 - Stillwell Road in High Bridge for smoke in a dwelling. Tower 45 is assigned mutual aid on this box. Tower 45 was cancelled prior to arrival by command and returned to quarters at 4:01 pm.



03/04/10 @ 2:32 am - Fire Box 4621 Level 1 - North Hunterdon High School for the fire alarm. All units held in station due to possible false alarm and were cancelled at 2:50 am by Chief 46(AHCO). This is a mutual aid assignment for CFD.



03/04/10 @ 3:30 pm - Fire Box 4505 Level 1 - Interstate 78 West in the Town of Clinton for the reported truck fire. Engine 451 arrived to find a truck that had a brake fire put out prior to CFD arrival. Members ensured the fire was out and returned to service at 3:52 pm.



03/06/10 @ 7:21 pm - Fire Box 2548 Level 1 - Hunterdon Developmental Center for the fire alarm activation. Chief 45, Engine 451 and Squad 91(QFC) responded and found the cause to be careless cooking. Smoke was cleared from the building and the alarm was reset. All units returned to service at 8:07 pm.



03/10/10 @ 4:16 pm - Fire Box 2503 Level 1 - Conrail train tracks in Union Township for the brush fire. Engine 451 responded mutual aid with 25 Fire(Pattenburg). Members assisted extinguishing fires along the tracks and returned to service at 5:59 pm.



03/10/10 @ 9:17 pm - Fire Box 4505 Level 1 - Interstate 78 West in the Town of Clinton for the MVA car overturned. Deputy 45, Engine 451 and Engine 452 responded and assisted EMS at the scene. All units were back in quarters at 9:56 pm.



03/11/10 @ 3:11 am - Fire Box 9106 Level 3 - Hampton Inn in Franklin Township. Initial call was Level 1 fire alarm, however upgraded to Level due to smoke throughout the building on arrival. Deputy 45, Tower 45, and Engine 451 responded mutual aid on this box and assisted in searching the building. Tower 45 crew found burned HVAC unit on the roof. The building was ventilated and all units returned to service at 4:13 am.



03/13/10 @ 6:00 am - Fire Box 4501 Level 1 - Stand by at station for possible flooding. Members stood by and monitored the situation until 12:00 pm. Members also assist 91 Fire(QFC) with a pump detail.



03/13/10 @ 9:40 am - Fire Box 9101 Level 1 - Sidney Road in Franklin Township for power lines down. Deputy 45 and Tower 45 responded on this mutual aid assignment and returned to service at 10:22 am.



03/14/10 @ 7:25 am - Fire Box 4502 Level 1 - Water Street in the Town of Clinton for the pump detail. Deputy 45 and Service 45 handled the assignment and cleared at 9:15 am.



03/14/10 @ 2:07 pm - Fire Box 4502 Level 1 - Hillcrest Park in the Town of Clinton for the pump detail. Deputy 45 and Service 45 handled the assignment and cleared at 3:39 pm.



03/14/10 @ 8:32 pm - Fire Box 4501 Level 1 - Main Street in the Town of Clinton for the fire alarm. Investigation determined a leaking washing machine caused the alarm to activate. All units returned to service at 9:52 pm.



03/15/10 @ 8:30 am - Fire Box 4502 Level 1 - Halstead Street in the Town of Clinton for the pump detail. Service 45 handled the assignment and cleared at 10:00 am.



03/16/10 @ 8:30 am - Special Call - Bound Brook in Somerset County to assist with pumping basements. Service 45 assisted as part of a Hunterdon County task force and returned to service at 5:00 pm.



03/16/10 @ 12:19 pm - Fire Box 4601 Level 4 - Interstate 78 East in Clinton Township for the gasoline leak. 46 Fire(AHCO) handled the call without assistance and CFD cancelled at 12:32 pm.



03/16/10 @ 2:30 pm - Fire Box 9106 Level 1 - Route 513 near Walmart in Franklin Township for the MVA. CFD unable to field a crew, 91 Fire handled the call.



03/17/10 @ 10:48 am - Fire Box 2504 Level 4 - Frontage Road in Union Township for the Natural gas leak. Engine 451 responded mutual aid with 25 Fire(PVFC) and assisted in checking the building with gas meter. Engine 451 released and returned to service at 12:34 pm.



03/17/10 @ 1:26 pm - Fire Box 9178 Level 1 - Interstate 78 East in Franklin Township for the MVA. Engine 451 assisted 91 fire at the scene and returned to service at 2:52 pm.



03/17/10 @ 10:47 pm - Fire Box 2548 Level 1 - Edna Mahon Correctional Facility for the MVA. Cancelled prior to arrival at 10:51 pm.



03/19/10 @ 2:02 pm - Fire Box 2548 Level 1 - Pittstown Road at HDC in Union Township for the MVA. Engine 451 responded and assisted EMS. Engine 451 returned to service @ 2:36 pm.



03/20/10 @ 3:39 pm - Fire Box 4504 Level 1 - Shammy Shine Car Wash in the Town of Clinton for the fire alarm. Chief 45, Tower 45 and Engine 452 responded and investigated. A bad detector was found in the attic and all units cleared at 4:12 pm.



03/20/10 @ 7:37 pm - Fire Box 9106 Level 1 - Hampton Inn in Franklin Township for the fire alarm. Chief 45, Tower 45, and Engine 451 responded mutual aid on this box. Investigation determined the alarm was accidental and all units cleared at 7:58 pm.



03/24/10 @ 2:45 pm - Fire Box 2547 Level 1 - Country Arch Care Center in Union Township for the fire alarm. CFD and QFC responded and investigated the alarm. Faulty detector was the cause and all units cleared at 3:06 pm.



03/25/10 @ 4:05 pm - Fire Box 2549 Level 1 - Interstate 78 East in Union Township for the MVA. Cancelled by State Police prior to arrival at 4:11 pm.



03/27/10 @ 2:21 am - Fire Box 2549 Level 1 - Interstate 78 West in Union Township for the MVA. Engine 451 responded and controlled a fuel spill and stood by until cars were removed. All nits returned to service at 3:30 am.



03/28/10 @ 11:55 am - Fire Box 4601 Level 2 - Shackamaxon Drive in Clinton Township for the oven fire. Chief 45 and Tower 45 responded mutual aid on this box. The fire was out on arrival and all units returned to service at 12:21 am.



03/29/10 @ 12:45 pm - Fire Box 4601 Level 2 - Regional Road in Clinton Township for the furnace fire. Tower 45 responded mutual aid on this box. The fire was out on arrival and Tower 45 returned to service @ 1:04 pm.

CFD Activity for February 2010

Call activity for the Clinton Fire Department for February 2010.

02/02/10 @ 2:36 pm - Fire Box 4508 Level 4 - Holiday Inn of Clinton for the Natural Gas Leak. Engine 45-1, Ladder 14(HBFD), and Engine 46-1(AHCO) responded. Investigation found the gas service was leaking on the exterior of the building. The gas was secured and the building was ventilated and checked for gas. All units were ready for service at 3:44 pm.

02/03/10 @ 9:35 am - Fire Box 9106 Level 1 - Interstate 78 in Franklin Township for a possible car fire. CFD was dispatched with 91 Fire(QFC). Deputy 91 cancelled all units the call was unfounded at 9:40 am.

02/04/10 @ 10:06 am - Fire Box 4601 Level 2 - Dartmouth Ct, Clinton Township Smoke in a dwelling. Tower 45 responded mutual aid on this assignment. Investigation determined the smoke was caused by a faulty surge protector. Tower 45 returned to service at 10:44 am.

02/06/10 @ 6:04 am - Fire Box 4601 Level 4 - Interstate 78 in Clinton Township for fuel spill from an MVA. Engine 45-1 responded to assist 46 Fire. Engine 45-1 returned to service at 6:47 am.

02/06/10 @ 7:11 pm - Fire Box 2548 Level 1 - Edna Mahon Prison for the Medivac landing. Engine 45-1 and Captain 45-1 responded. All units returned to service at 10:20 pm.

02/08/10 @ 9:34 am - Fire Box 2545 Level 1 - Panorama Pl, Union Township, for the fire alarm. Engine 45-1 and Chief 45 responded. Chief 45 arrived and determined the cause of the alarm was careless cooking and no further action was needed. All units returned to service at 9:45 am.

02/08/10 @ 4:22 pm - Fire Box 2546 Level 1 - Pittstown Rd @ Race St for the MVA. Engine 45-1, Chief 45, and Squad 91(QFC) responded on the box. Chief 45 arrived and determined Engine 45-1 could handle the call and Squad 91 was returned at 4:31 pm. All Clinton units cleared at 4:40 pm.

02/09/10 @ 9:00 am - Fire Box 2546 Level 1 - Race St, Union Township, for the CO alarm. Tower 45, Engine 91-2, and Deputy 91 responded and found high CO readings in the residence. The cause was determined to be a leak in the wood stove chimney. The fire place was emptied and the residence was ventilated. All units returned to service at 9:52 am.

02/11/10 @ 9:25 am - Fire Box 2549 Level 1 - Interstate 78, Union Township, for the MVA. Engine 45-1 and Chief 45 responded. CFD members assisted EMS and checked for fluid spills. All units returned to service at 9:58 am.

02/16/10 @ 4:56 pm - Fire Box 1401 Level 2 - West Main St, High Bridge, for the chimney fire. Tower 45 is assigned mutual aid to HBFD on this box. Chief 14 arrived quickly and determined 14 Fire units would handle. Tower 45 returned to service at 5:01 pm.

02/17/10 @ 11:29 am - Fire Box 4501 Level 4 - Agway, Town of Clinton, for an odor of propane. Engine 45-2 and Chief 45 responded and investigated. No odor or problem found. All units returned to service at 11:43 am.

02/18/10 @ 6:06 am - Fire Box 2549 Level 1 - Interstate 78, Union Township, for the tractor trailer fire. Engine 45-1 and Chief 45 responded. The fire was out on arrival and State Police were on scene. All units returned to quarters at 6:20 am.

02/18/10 @ 12:04 pm - Fire Box 2548 Level 1 - Hunterdon Developmental Center for the Fire alarm. Engine 45-1 and Engine 91-2(QFC) responded. Investigation found a patient pulled the alarm, there was no fire. All units returned to quarters at 12:30 pm.

02/22/10 @ 11:25 am - Fire Box 2546 Level 1 - Behind Country Arch Care Center for the smoke investigation. Tower 45 and Brush 91(QFC) responded. The source of the smoke was an open burn and there was no problem. All units returned to quarters at 11:54 am.

02/22/10 @ 5:10 pm - Fire Box 4503 Level 2 - Leigh St, Town of Clinton, for the chimney fire. Engine 45-2, Tower 45, Deputy 45, Ladder 14(HBFD), Engine 46-1(AHCO), Engine 91-2(QFC), and Squad 18(FAST) responded on this box. Deputy 45 had command and determined the situation was under control and cancelled all mutual aid units at 5:19 pm. All units were clear at 6:00 pm.

02/26/10 @ 10:08 am - Fire Box 4502 Level 4 - North Branch of the County Library for the natural gas leak. Engine 45-1, Engine 45-2, Chief 45, Captain 45-1 responded. Captain 45-1 arrived first and found an active leak behind the library where a snow plow struck the meter. Captain 45-1 took command. A safe area was established and evacuations were initiated. A 2nd alarm was requested bringing Ladder 14(HBFD), Engine 46-1(AHCO), and Engine 91-2. Chief 45 had operations and determined the leak could not be stopped until Elizabethtown Gas arrived. Elizabethtown Gas arrived at 10:30 am and shut off the gas at 10:37 am. The library was checked for gas and the scene was turned over to the gas company. All units returned to service at 11:03 am.
